Varanasi, also called Benares, Banaras, or Kashi, is located on the left bank of the Ganga River and is one of the seven sacred metropolises of Hinduism. Varanasi is one of the oldest continuously inhabited metropolises in the world. It was one of the first major civic agreements in the middle Ganges valley.
